Upon your wedding day
So the day is finally here when the babies of our two families take their steps to the altar and become their own family. There is much to say, much to remember on this holy and blessed day, a day I must confess I have been dreading for over a decade.
Refining my role as a wife: Bearing it well
[Love] bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthian 13:7 Reading Darlene Schacht’s Messy Beautiful Love has turned out to be a jaw-dropping and hopefully life- and marriage-altering experience. After sufficiently licking my wounds uncovered by last week’s post, I stumbled across another familiar phrase in 1 Corinthians 13: [Love] bears all things. Stop. We’re not talking about the Genesis 16:11 bear: Now you have conceived and shall bear a son. Darn it, because I have done that, even if it was with much difficulty. But that’s not what this bear means. The Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary explains that beareth all things means to do…
Refining My Role as Wife (Lessons from the Time Warp Wife’s new book)
Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Romans 7:19-20 Since I was a little girl, I aspired to holiness like my brother aspired to be a professional football player. Religion seemed so simple: follow the rules, life goes great, you go to heaven. And, I was great at following the rules! It just came naturally to me, kind of like a talent. But there are by-products to a character fastened to rigidity: a prideful heart filled with…
Song of Joy
A Song of Joy Sing aloud, O daughter Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter Jerusalem! The Lord has taken away the judgments against you, he has turned away your enemies. The king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall fear disaster no more. On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: Do not fear, O Zion; do not let your hands grow weak. The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a warrior who gives victory; he will rejoice over you with gladness, he will renew you in his love; he will exult over you with loud singing as…
